【Brother Bridge】Escape II Vintage Black Calf Boots
Style
The M43 (TYPE III) service boot stands out as the most popular in the U.S. Not only was it the most widely produced and distributed, but its exceptional comfort and design quality have set a standard in modern boot manufacturing. Historically, the U.S. enlisted numerous medical researchers to enhance shoe comfort, a practice that fundamentally shaped the approach to boot design. This tradition of medical research enhancing footwear comfort has been carried into the design of the "Escape II".
The design strictly adheres to the original specifications while tweaking each detail to better accommodate Asian feet. For Westerners this means a elegantly comfortable shape all around. BROTHER BRIDGE maintains the boots' intrinsic qualities but adds a touch of refinement. A distinctive feature is the removal of the toe cap, allowing the boots to naturally flatten at the tips over time, fostering a vintage appearance.
Sizing
This model is a stylish advancement from the original Escape, sharing the same last as the HENRY. For those who own the HENRY, we recommend taking the same size or sizing up by half for comfort. Or a full size to allow additional cushion.
Leather
"We wanted to introduce the pleasure and depth of the natural aging process of leather, so this season, we have developed a new type of leather." - Brother Bridge
It's an original calf leather, tanned in Himeji, a traditional leather-producing region in Japan. The rawhide is made from high-quality Dutch calves, using the traditional tannin tanning process. While Brother Bridge are particular about the rawhide, Brother Bridge focused even more on the tanning (leather-making) process and dyeing.
Normally, chrome tanned and pigment-finished leather provides a uniform finish and stable surface, but it's somewhat inferior in terms of aging. On the other hand, tannin-tanned leather has the characteristic of developing a sheen and retaining wrinkles over time due to the reaction of its components.
Tannin tanning, by its nature, tends to make the leather slightly harder, but here at the tannery's (leather factory's) years of experience and the unique use of water have produced a more flexible tannin-tanned leather. It's a rare and wild type of leather often used for women's shoes.
Additionally, to make the leather age more noticeably with use, the surface is finished only with dyes, which allows cream to penetrate well. With care, the leather darkens and develops a beautiful patina.
Although it is a more labor-intensive tanning method, Brother Bridge decided to produce calf leather with the desire for customers to enjoy the natural changes that this leather undergoes.
